Strong Albanian Local Statistics
The Strong Albanian Local Statistics project is a joint initiative to modernise Albania's statistical system. Through the collaboration between the Federal Statistical Office and the Institute of Statistics of Albania (INSTAT), the project strengthens local statistics and supports evidence-based decision-making in Albanian municipalities.
Direct access
Cooperation relating to censuses and local statistics
The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) has been supporting the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) in the lead-up to censuses since the 1990s.
Since 2017, the Strong Albanian Local Statistics (SALSTAT) project has worked to strengthen local statistics in Albanian municipalities. The project is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Twinning approach
The Swiss‒Albanian partnership is based on a twinning approach. Experts from the statistical offices in Switzerland and Albania work closely together, sharing practical knowledge as peers. This peer-to-peer initiative supports institutional capacities and sustainable modernisation of statistical systems.
Municipality dashboard and register: Making data visible
A key outcome of the project has been the Municipality Dashboard, which gives local authorities and the public access to new indicators relating to waste management, forestry and pre-school education. Another major outcome is the establishment of a nationwide register of buildings and dwellings, which serves as an important basis for infrastructure planning.
